ENFORCEMENT AND COMPLIANCE
- Development and review of the regulatory framework for the tea sub sector;
- Licensing of tea manufacturers and registration of tea dealers along the value chain;
- Compliance monitoring, inspections/audits of tea factories and tea traders to enforce relevant laws and standards;
- Surveillance inspections on illegal dealings in tea;
- Development and review of tea Standards in collaboration with Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) and other international standards development bodies;
- Tea quality analysis to enhance market access.
- Capacity building and technical assistance to Counties.
- Pre - import conformity assessment and approval of tea imports;
- Dissemination of information to stakeholders on tea matters.
- Consultation with tea industry stakeholders in the development of policies and regulations;
MARKET RESEARCH AND PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT
- Monitoring and dissemination of market information, including identification of the local and global supply-demand situation;
- Promote trade and market access for Kenya tea;
- Create overseas market linkages for Kenya tea;
- Conduct Kenya tea market research, intelligence gathering and surveys on traditional, emerging and potential markets for Kenyan tea;
- Build capacity of value chain players on product development, adaptation and product design, packaging, labelling, branding and enhancement of exporting skills at both sectoral and firm levels and providing business counselling services to potential and existing exporters;
- Promote and advise on strategies for value addition prior to the export of tea from Kenya.
TECHNICAL AND ADVISORY SERVICES
- Establishing linkages with various governments and private research institutions for the conduct of studies and researches designed to promote the production of tea;
- Promote quality improvement programs though formulation of guidelines on good agriculture practices, Good manufacturing practices and Best Environment practices for the Tea sector;
- Formulate guidelines for control of pest and diseases using Integrated Pest Managements (IPM) practices strategies;
- Collaborating with research and training institutions in disseminating research findings;
- Conduct surveys and studies on various aspects for the promotion and development of tea and tea products;
- Collaborate with the Tea Research Institute in training and development of technical materials on various products and aspects of production of tea;
- Capacity building of Counties to enhance their technical capabilities for the development of the tea value chain;
- Advise on various aspects of tea value chain in consultation with the relevant institutions with the aim of improving performance of the tea industry;
